Class 28(2) In a meat tendering machine, the two shafts 34 carrying interacting disc cutters 37, 38 are removable from the machine as a unit, the unit comprising spaced lifting handles 56 (or one handle) spanning end plates 54 which have U-shaped openings 60, 62 receiving the ends of the shafts 34 and locating them in driving contact with clutch pins 36 in the casing engaging forked ends on the shafts. The meat fed through the opening 86 in the removable cover 84 can drop down between the spaced handles 56. The shafts 34 are retained in their slots 60, 62 when a latch 64 is swung over into position, Fig. 6. The end plates 54 may also have recesses 76, 78 to receive stripper combs 70, 72 the teeth of which lie on the spacers between the cutting discs. The cutter shafts 34 are then fully supported in the machine independent of the end plates 54 which rest on bushings. An overhang 92 (on the part of Fig. 9) prevent the shafts 34 rising up during working. The combs 70, 72, also finally rest in the machine frame. The cutters can thus be supported in the machine without the lifting frame to facilitate sharpening them while rotated within the machine. The cutters comprise plain discs 38 alternating with serrated discs 37. U.S.A. Specification 2,360,729 is referred to.
