Class 42 (1) In a method of treating textile or knitted fabrics or the like in which at least a portion of the length of the fabric rests on, or is moved across, a bed or supporting structure of plane form, in contact therewith, the bed or supporting structure is made to execute horizontal or vertical vibrations, or both, in such a manner as to reduce or eliminate tensions which would otherwise be set up in the fabric by the contact between it and the bed or supporting structure. The fabric may be loaded down with weights which may extend substantially across the length of the bed or supporting structure and be movably fixed thereto so that they may be tilted to one side thereof when not in use. The vibratory treatment may be used in connection with measuring or cutting of the fabric, or it may be interposed between two treatments, e.g. decatizing and storage, drying and steaming, or pressing and drying. Or, the fabric may be conducted from one table, on which it is loosely folded or ruffled, across the vibrating bed, to another table where it is again loosely folded or ruffled. The vibrating bed may be horizontal or be inclined at an angle of up to 45 degrees. A suitable frequency range for the vibrations is up to 60 vibrations per second with an amplitude of 3 to 6 millimetres.
