Abstract
707,568. Oven doors. CANNON INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and OATLEY, A. F. April 30, 1952 [May 8, 1951], No. 10757/51. Class 126 Sealing means for the door of a cooking oven comprises a strip of metal adjustably clamped to the front frame of the oven and having a resilient portion adapted to make sealing contact with the door and to be deflected against a rigid backing as the door is closed. In an oven having a door hinged at its bottom edge, the channel section top bar 10 of the oven front frame serves to space apart the panels of the oven structure and also carries an L-section sealing strip with flanges 17, 18 of heating resisting steel and an L-section backing strip 19, 20 of aluminium alloy. The backing and sealing strips are secured to the bar 10 by screws 21 passing through vertical slots 23 in the flanges 19, 17. The slots are wider than the shanks of the screws 21 to allow slight horizontal adjustment of the strips. The width of the protruding backing flange 20 is less than that of the sealing flange 18, and the outermost edge of the latter is beaded. A rib 26 on the edge of flange 20 is positioned so that as the door closes it contacts the rear of the sealing flange 18 behind the beaded edge, and the beaded edge can yield further. The sealing flange 18 is normally inclined away from the backing flange 20, and the door has a bulged portion 29 on its inner face, the edge 30 of which engages the sealing strip. The sealing strip 17, 18 and backing strip 19, 20 are provided only on the upper bar of the front frame. The side bars 11 of the oven front frame are provided with L- section aluminium alloy edging strips comprising flanges 35, 36. The edge 30 of the bulge 29 on the inner face of the door engages the flange 36 as the door is closed. The ends of the backing strip 19, 20 are provided with integral rounded corner pieces 42 having flanges which enter into alignment with the flanges of the edging strips 35, 36. The surfaces of the backing strip flange 19, and the edging strip flange 35 which engage the front of the oven front frame are recessed and the backing strip may be divided intermediate its length to permit adjustment.
