Abstract

707,066. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Jan. 4, 1952 [April 6, 1951; May 2, 1951; Oct. 19, 1951], Nos. 8041/51; 10299/51 and 24440/51. Class 12(1) A bearing element is treated chemically or electro-chemically to produce a porous or microporous surface, and the pores so formed are filled with a solid lubricant comprising one or more of the following substances applied in admixture, in succession, or in different areas, viz:-poly-tetrafluoro-ethylene, lead di-iodide, lead sulphide, boron nitride, camphor, silver sulphate, stannic sulphide, cadmium iodide, tungsten disulphide, and alpha mercapto palmitic acid. Two or more of the substances may be applied in admixture with one another to the surface, in succession, or in different areas, or the solid lubricant may include one or more of the above substances in admixture with molybdenum disulphide, graphite &c. The lubricant may include minor quantities of binders acting as plasticizers or vehicles promoting the incorporation of the lubricant in the surface. The surface may be chemically etched as described in Specification 701,690 and may be applied to the whole or part of the surface. The lubricant may be incorporated into the surface as described in Specification 707,065.
