Abstract

706,119. Disc brakes. SIBA-SOC. ITALIANA BREVETTI AUTOMOBILISTICI, A R.L., and KREIS, F. May 15, 1951 [May 13, 1950], No. 11327/51. Class 103(1) [Also in Group XXIV] In a combined centrifugal clutch and brake for a gear train, centrifugal weights 7 retained by a tie spring operate a multipledisc clutch 3 through elements 22 to connect a gear 4 to a driving shaft 2, and have oblique surfaces 11 which engage the conical end of a spring-pressed sleeve 13 operating, through a lever 17, a brake ring 20 acting on a gear 5, outward centrifugal movement ot the weights 7 disengaging the brake and engaging the clutch. The gear 5, which is driven by gear 4, is slidably keyed to its shaft so that additional braking is effected by the fixed surface 21. The lever 17 is pivoted at 16 and operated, through a thrust bearing, by a ring on the sleeve 13 so that when the clutch is disengaged in response to a fall in speed the gear 5 is braked by the spring pressure on the sleeve 13.
