704,314. Ice-making. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 1, 1952 [Aug. 2, 1951], No. 19539/52. Class 29 A horizontal wall of a refrigerator, e.g. the top wall 5 of the liner or the lower wall of a refrigerated plate within the cabinet, is refrigerated by an evaporator coil on its upper surface and has fixed to its lower surface channels 7 in which are slidably mounted racks 8 made of material of low thermal conductivity and supporting ice-trays 9. This arrangement causes the upper parts of the liquid in the trays to freeze first and the subsequent freezing of the remaining liquid causes the icebonds to be severed. The moulds of the ice-trays may be hemispherical or of truncated conical cross-section.
