Abstract

704,093. Watches. SCHMITZ, O. May 7, 1951 [May 10, 1950; July 12, 1950], No. 10732/51. Class 139 A watch having a self-winding means comprising a supporting frame, an oscillating mass, a toothed driving wheel connected for oscillation with the oscillating mass, two transfer wheels connected for movement together to wind the mainspring, means for preventing backward rotation of the transfer wheels and a pinion which is constantly in mesh with the driving wheel and is adapted to move one or other of the transfer wheels depending on the direction of oscillation of the driving wheel, is characterized in that the pinion has an opening to receive a supporting pin which is mounted in the frame, the pin and the opening being so shaped as to permit lateral movement of the pinion with respect to a line connecting the centres of the axes of the oscillating mass and of the supporting pin. A gear 2, Fig. 1, fixed to the oscillating mass 1 constantly meshes with a pinion 3 which is movable to mesh with either of two intermeshing gears 5, 6 of the mainspring winding train in accordance with the direction of movement of the mass 1. The gears 5, 6 are always rotated in the direction of the arrows 9, 8 and a detent 7 prevents their reverse rotation. The pinion 3 rests on a plate and has a central circular hole to receive an elliptical pin 4. In another example, Fig. 3 (hot shown), the pinion 3 is rotatable about a bush which has a generally rectangular bore which receives a pin 4 of generally rectangular cross-section. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 653,271.
