Abstract
692,826. Winches. TAYLOR, H. G. Jan. 29, 1952. [Jan. 30, 1951] No. 2262/51. Class 78 (v). In a winch of the kind in which the rope 10 is held against the drum 11 by a roller 18, the roller is tapered slightly in the direction of its length. In the construction shown two falls are wound on the drum and the roller is tapered from the middle towards the ends. The roller is mounted by a centrally located ball bearing 19 on the end of a spindle 15. The inner member of the bearing is connected to the spindle 15 by a pin 20 and is formed with a clearance so that it can rock on the pin. The spindle is secured to a radius arm 12 pivoted to the frame at 14. The free ends of the arm is connected to the Frame by a spring 16. The roller may be in driving contact with, or connected by spur gearing to, another roller which is slidably mounted in guides disposed radially with respect to the axis of the drum and is driven by the drum through belt or chain gearing.
