Abstract
<PICT:0691048/IV (b)/1> A foamless stirring process for a liquid medium in the production of penicillin, streptomycin and the like comprises forming a permanent vortex within the liquid and periodically disrupting the bottom end or apex of the vortex in such a way as to introduce into the bulk of the liquid, gas or another liquid contained within the vortex. As described, both the formation of the vortex and the disruption of its apex are effected by means of a propeller 12 in a jacketed container 1, the propeller being carried by a shaft 13 which is inclined at a few degrees to the vertical axis of the container. The liquid constitutes the reproductive medium for antibiotic substances and it is stated that the mycelium, at the end of the production of the production of the antibiotic substance, is in a filiform state with reproductive spores, so as to allow the continuous cycle in the industrial production of the antibiotic substance.ALSO:<PICT:0691048/III/1> A foamless stirring and/or homogenizing including emulsifying process comprises forming a permanent vortex within a liquid and periodically disrupting the bottom end or apex of the vortex in such a way as to introduce into the bulk of the liquid another liquid contained within the vortex. As described both the formation of the vortex and the disruption of its apex are effected by means of a propeller 12 in the bottom of a jacketed container 1, the propeller being carried by a shaft 13 which is inclined a few degrees to the vertical axis of the container.
