Abstract

690,706. Coated nylon fabrics. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 9, 1951. [March 9, 1950] No. 5955/50. Class 140. Coated nylon fabric is produced by treating nylon fabric with a solution containing a polyester derived from adipic acid, ethylene glycol and glycerol, and an aromatic hydrocarbon diisocyanate, evaporating the solvent and subjecting the fabric to heat treatment. Examples of aromatic hydrocarbon diisocyanates are m-phenylene diisocyanate and toluylene- 2 : 4-diisocyanate. Suitable solvents are butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, methylcyclohexanone. Additional ingredients such as a pigment, a natural hydrocarbon wax, a synthetic hydrocarbon wax such as polythene or a plasticiser such as dibutyl phthalate may be included. Prior to, during, or after the heat treatment the coating may be polished, for example by a calendering operation, or embossed effects may be obtained, for example by means of an embossing calender.
