Ramps 16 in a bay at the rear of a derrick substructure first serve to raise the rear of a trailer 22, which carries draw-works 21, 25, above a support 8 at the inner end of the bay, and then tilt about a shaft 17 into a substantially horizontal position to lower the rear of the trailer onto the support 8. The front of the trailer is then raised, to level the trailer bed, by a removable beam 27 supported at its ends on jacks 28. The pivot shaft 17 may be bolted to the ramps 16 at several different positions along their length and the half-bearing 18 for the shaft may similarly be adjusted along the inner beams 2 of the side frames. The beam 27 for raising the rear of the trailer is guided at each end by two adjacent vertical beams 4. The substructure comprises a pair of box-like frames A, B each carrying derrick shoes 13, 14 and formed from upper and lower beams 1 and 2 welded to vertical members 4 and cross members 3 and each carrying a hinged floor section 5. The inner bottom beams 2 are detachably connected by cross ties 6 and 7, the former of which supports the ends of the ramps 16 in their horizontal position. The side frames A, B are also detachably joined by a heavy cross beam forming the support 8 and by a framework 9 to which are hinged extensions 11 normally resting on the side frames A, B and forming with the framework 9 a pipe setback support.
