Abstract
690,214. Gasifying solid fuels. DIRECTIE VAN DE STAATSMIJNEN IN LIMBURG. Dec. 29, 1948 [Dec. 29, 1947; May 8, 1948], Nos. 33433/48 and 33434/48. Class 55(i). Fine-grained carbonaceous material, e.g. coal, coke, sawdust, coal slime, is gasified in two producers in series 1, 5, in the first of which whirling conditions are created and the reaction temperature exceeds the melting point of the ash constituents; the volume of the second producer is a multiple of that of the first and the concentration of particles in it is increased as by providing a column of filling bodies 6 surmounted by a fluidized bed 7. Gasifying agents comprising oxygen, air, &c. are introduced into producer 1 from the side as a cyclone 2 and fresh material into producer 5 at points 8 or 9, oxygen-containing gases entering at 10 and steam at 11, 12. Heavier particles are extracted through an outlet 14 and the lighter are separated from the gases in a cyclone 16 and returned with the heavier particles to producer 1. Molten clinker is drawn off through a drain 13. In addition to water vapour, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons may be supplied to producer 5 which may contain catalysts, or to the gases coming from producer 1 to which fuel may also be added. The gas composition may also be regulated by employing two or more small producers in parallel. The fuel may be preheated in a feed cyclone in which preferably gaseous fuel is burnt. The larger producer may be arranged as in Specification 33431/48 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91) and coke employed as filling material. Specification 669,906 also is referred to.
