Abstract
690,069. Tilting furnaces. DUFOUR, J., and BISTOS, A. Jan. 26, 1951 [Feb. 8, 1950], No. 2035/51. Class 51(ii) In the tiltable furnace shown material to be melted and refined is fed through an opening 18b into a chamber 1 through the top of which depends a gas outlet tube 5 formed with a depending lip 6 such that combustion gases from the burner 18, and, possibly one placed at 18a, are caused to effect a circuit within the chamber before escaping through the outlet. When the material is molten refining is effected by tilting the furnace (Fig. 2) and blowing air or oxygenated air into the chamber 1 from a blowing box 15. The refined material is discharged through an opening 17.
