[Also in Groups XVI, XVII and XXX] A stacker wheel, for at least partially wrapped packets, has radial pockets with stiffly movable base plates so that the packets may be partially inserted before a revenue stamp applying operation which also completed the insertion. Each packet 2 of the stacker wheel 1; operating as described in Specification 593,866, [Group XVII] has a base plate 3 with a depending rod 4 which has a flat 5 engaged by a presser device 6 so that movement of the plate 3 is comparatively stiff. Packets P from a packing machine 14 are inserted endwise by a conveyer 15 for about two-thirds of their length into a packet 2. A folder plate 70 may be provided to complete the folding before the stamping station is reached where stamps 20 are extracted from a magazine 21 by a sucker 22 and conveyed by rollers 23, 31 past a pasting roller 37 to be applied by the roller 31 to the end of the packet where they are engaged first by a reciprocating presser plate 39 and then by two reciprocating tuckers 40 which fold the ends of the stamps on to the broad face of the packet. The presser 39 then completes the insertion of the packet and one step before the loading point the packets are ejected by a reciprocating member 58 engaging the rod 4. The packets fall on to a platform 61 where a pusher 62 moves them to a table 63 from which they fall on edge on to a table 64 to be engaged by another pusher 65 for delivery between guides. A ramp 73 correctly positions the packets before they reach the stamping station and a spring 72 pressing on the flats 5 of the rods 4 increases the resistance of the bottom plates 3 during the stamp application.
