Abstract
697,027. Generating combustion products under pressure. LUCAS. Ltd., J. Nov. 16, 1951 [Nov. 27, 1950], No. 28917/50. Class 51(i) In an air jacketed type of combustion chamber for a gas turbine or jet propulsion engine, the inlet end of the flame tube has an annular sheet metal partition, the outer surface a of which constitutes the inner wall of the air supply passage b to the surrounding air jacket c, and the inner surface of which forms a cylindrical duct d leading to an air swirling means g through which air passes to the axial region of the flame tube. The end wall e of the flame tube has a circumferential flange p which meets the inner surface of the annular portion a. The end wall e is formed of overlapping plates which have holes n through which air can pass to cool the end wall, air being admitted to the annular partition through holes o in the outer surface or in the cylindrical duct d. A tube h is disposed within the duct part d and the fuel nozzle j is disposed within the tube, air passing through holes m to effect a scouring action on the nozzle.
