Abstract
682,455. Cleaning pipes. COLES (CONTRACTORS). Ltd., and PLATT, R. Jan. 25, 1951 [Jan. 26, 1950], No. 2098/50. Class 99 (ii). In a device for cleaning tubes and the like comprising a tubular member 20, Fig. 3, such as can be passed into the tube to be cleaned, a driving shaft 24 rotatably mounted within the tubular member 20, a cleaning element, such as a brush 28, mounted on one end of the shaft 24 and externally of the tubular member 20, rotatable drive means, for example a pulley 27, on the other end of the driving shaft, means, such as a connection 31 for supplying cleaning liquid to the interior of the tubular member 20 whereby the liquid may be fed to the brush 28, a pedestal or carriage 11, Fig. 1, for supporting the tubular member 20, and means, for example, a bracket 16, for mounting the tubular member, at or near the end remote from the brush, on the pedestal 11 at or near one end thereof, there is provided means, such as a peripherally grooved roller 18, on the pedestal for freely supporting the tubular member at or near the brush end. The pedestal 11, which may be provided with wheels or skids, not shown, is arranged so that the axes of the pivot 17 of bracket 16 and roller 18 are parallel. The shaft 24 is journalled in bearings 25, 26, Fig. 3, although intermediate bearings, not shown, may also be provided, and is driven from an electric motor 34, Fig. 1, through the pulley 27 and belt 35; the motor may be mounted on the frame as shown or located independently thereof. The pipe to be cleaned is passed over the rotating brush 28, and liquid, such as water, is passed into the pipe from the connection 31 through the tubular member 20 and grooves in the outer bearing 25; the tubular member 20 and associated parts may be pivoted in bracket 16 as shown in dash-dot lines whilst the pipe being cleaned is supported on roller 18, the pivotal mounting of member 20 allowing pipes of different external diameters to be cleaned. In a modification, the pivotal mounting of the tubular member is dispensed with and the grooved roller is spring-loaded and mounted for vertical movement.
