Class 135 [Also in Group XXXIV] A hydraulic control valve, e.g. for aircraft brakes or flaps, comprises a housing 1 with connections 10, 11, 12, to exhaust, the brakes or other mechanism, and a source of pressure respectively, a ported liner 6 in a bore 2 in the housing, a sleeve 13 slidable in the liner and having ports 16a ... 16c and recesses 15a .. 15c permitting communication of the connections 10, 11, 12 with the interior of the sleeve, a piston valve having lands 24, 25 slidable in the sleeve and movable manually against a spring 31, and a loading spring 30 for the sleeve. Movement of the piston valve to the right by a stem 28 first closes ports 16a and then opens ports 16c connecting the pressure source to the brakes. Pressure builds up in the connection 11 and acts through bores 22, 23, on a piston 18 which moves the sleeve 13 against the spring 30 to close the ports 16c. Increased braking is obtained by moving the piston valve further to the right. Leakage past the valve collects in a chamber 3 and thence passes through a bore 32 in the piston valve to the recess 15a and the exhaust connection 10. An increase of pressure in the connection 11 due, e.g. to a rise in temperature, causes the piston 18 to move the sleeve to open the exhaust ports 16a to relieve the excess pressure. When the stem 28 is released, the springs 30, 31 move the sleeve and piston valve to close the ports 16c and connect the brakes to exhaust.
