Abstract
688,696. Inductor alternators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and RABY, K. F. Feb. 23, 1951 [March 15, 1950], No. 6507/50. Class 35. In a single-phase heteropolar inductor generator the relative arrangement of the stator and rotor slots and teeth are such as to produce alternate zones of relatively high and low reluctance in the air gap, the zones interchanging when the rotor R moves through one-half rotor slot pitch, and the pitch of the stator small teeth is different from that of the rotor teeth. In the known machine shown in Fig. 1, each coil of the exciting winding has its opposite sides located in alternate stator slots SE embracing the high and low reluctance zones, the A.C. winding being located in slots SG (only one is shown). Fig. 3 shows the stator having four large teeth each having a number of small teeth, the pitch of which is different from that of the rotor teeth. The pitch of the stator large teeth is an odd multiple of # radians electrical so as to obtain the required alternate zones of high and low reluctance. The object of the above arrangement is to reduce the E.M.F. harmonics of inductor generators. Specification 554,827 is referred to.
