Abstract
686,718. Pneumatic conveyers; screw conveyers. CHEREWICK, F. J. Oct. 30, 1950. No. 26366/50. Class 78 (i). Sawdust from a hopper 5 is fed by a screw 18 along a pipe 2 so that the material forms a plug 35, the plug being disintegrated by air from a blower 11 fed through a cone 9 and discharged by the air stream through a pipe 12 and a flexible pipe 16. The screw 18 is fixed on a shaft 19 slidable in the pipe 2, the shaft having splined connection with a driving pulley 21 and carrying a block 24 which may be metred by hand along the said pipe by a screw 29, the screw passing through a lug 26 carried by the block 24 and through a lug 30 carried by the pipe 2. In this way the length of the plug may be varied.
