Abstract
673,808. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 28, 1950 [Dec. 31, 1949], No. 31487/50. Class 38 (ii). A three-phase induction apparatus is provided with a magnetic core 1 having three main legs A, B, C, and a pair of auxiliary legs 8, 9, the main primary and secondary windings 2, 3 being wound on the main legs and connected in starstar relationship and a pair of auxiliary equalizing windings 10, 11 being wound on the auxiliary legs and connected in opposition in a closed loop relation so as to reduce to a minimum the neutral shift in the fluxes in the main legs and in the voltages in the main windings. The net fluxes #A, #C are equal in magnitude and symmetrically spaced with respect to #B, but #B is smaller than #A or #B due to the shift of the neutral point caused by the fact that although #4 is equal in magnitude to #7 they are not in phase. The effect of the equalizing windings 10, 11 is to force the fluxes #4, #7 into phase, thus preventing a shift of the neutral point. The core construction may be of wound strip or punched laminations.
