Abstract
671,269. Magnetic records. BRUSH DEVELOPMENT CO. April 25, 1950. [Nov. 2, 1949] No. 10160/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (ii). [Also in Group XXXV] A magnetic record material includes a plurality of layers of magnetic material having different magnetic properties for the purpose of providing a .better over-all response, comprising a first layer of magnetic particles in a binder, and a second layer of magnetic particles in a binder on the first layer and spaced therefrom so that the bias field from a recording head providing substantially maximum output from the first layer is also effective to provide substantially maximum output from the second layer. In a described embodiment, the first layer comprises a coating of 0.0003 inches thick and contains about 80 per cent by weight of black iron-oxide powder dispersed in a vinyl resin binder, the coercivity being about 110 oersteds and retentivity about 400 gauss, with a coercivity/retentivity ratio of 0.28, while the second layer is about 0.0002 inches thick and contains about 80 per cent by weight of black iron-cobalt-oxide dispersed in a vinyl resin-binder, the coercivity being about 480 oersteds and retentivity about 750 gauss, with a coercivity/retentivity ratio of 0.64.
