679,412. Change-speed gear. PETERSEN, E. SCHLEISNER-. July 5, 1950, No. 16766/50. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Group VIII] The invention relates to a change-speed arrangement for the electric motor drive of laundry machines having drums (not shown) which are required to work at two different speeds, for laundering and hydro-extraction respectively, comprising a motor axle 2, an intermediate shaft 10 and a drum shaft 6 interconnected by means of gears 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, and two one-way idling couplings 4, 5 and 13, 14, so that reversing the motor changes the speed of, without reversing, the shaft 6. According to the invention, the two couplings 4, 5, and 13, 14, have a common coupling part 5, 14, so that the motor axle 2, coupling part 5, 14, and drum shaft 6, are in coaxial relation. In the construction described, a friction disc clutch 3 is interposed between the shaft 2 and the clutch element 4. The one-way clutches comprise balls 15 which work in wedge shaped recesses in the part 5, 14. In operation, the shaft 2 on rotating in one direction drives the shaft 6 direct via the clutch 4, 5. On rotation in the other direction of the shaft 2, the drive is via the gear train 8-13, and the coupling 13, 14, the coupling 4, 5 remaining idle.
