Abstract
A sintered hard carbide alloy cinsists of one carbide of a metal of the 6th Group of the Periodic System and two or more carbides of metals of the 4th Group with 3-13 per cent Co as the auxiliary metal and is characterized in that one of the carbides of the 4th Group is of Zr and the carbon content is higher than that which is required for the highest degree of carburization of the metals. An example contains 78 per cent of WC, 13 per cent TiC, 3 per cent ZrC and 6 per cent Co. The constituent materials are sintered together between 1450 DEG and 1600 DEG C and the sintered p mass is then cooled slowly to 1150 DEG C to precipitate dissolved ZrC.
