Abstract
662,461. Conveyers. WALL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Feb. 20, 1950. [Feb. 22, 1949 ; Dec. 13, 1949] Nos. 4862/49 and 32013/49. Class 78 (i). [Also in Group VIII] In an ironing machine of the type comprising one or more ironing rollers 12 bearing on a heated bed 10 over which the clothes are moved by a conveyer belt system, the conveyer comprises an endless band 14 equal in width to the rollers 12 and stretched between rollers 15, 16 disposed parallel to the ironing rollers 12 adjacent the ends of the machine, the upper run of the band extending above the rollers and being provided with heating means for continuously drying it so that the lower run is substantially dry when it enters the machine between a, roller 12 and the bed 10. The band-drying means includes shields 40 positioned immediately below the upper run of the band for shielding it from steam rising from the bed and for radiating to the band heat absorbed from the steam. A plurality of shields 40 may be provided, each of corrugated sheet metal and provided with side flanges 41. One or more intermediate rollers 46 support the band 14 between the shields 40. The end rollers 15, 16 may be adjusted bv means of threaded rods 26 which engage in bearings 28, 29 carried by frame members 18, and carry brackets 23 with bearings 22 for the rollers 15, 16. The brackets 23 are mounted between collars 24, 25 which are axially adjustable along the rods 26 and fixed in position by set screws. Figs. 3 to 7 inclusive (not shown), illustrate means for preventing lateral movement of the conveyer band 14. In Figs. 3 and 4 the longitudinal margins of the band carry V-section belts which are received in guide pulleys mounted at the ends of the rollers 15, 16. In Fig. 5 flanges are provided on the ends of the rollers 12 and in Fig. 6 the upper run of the band 14 is engaged between one or more pairs of guide rollers, one of each pair being fitted at its ends with flanges to act as stops for the bands. In Fig. 7 the end rollers, 15, 16 have a crowned formation. The band 14 may be of cotton duck, felt or asbestos. According to the earlier Provisional Specification the end rollers may be spring loaded, and shallow guides for the conveyer band may be provided on the frame of the machine itself.
