Abstract

666,871. Seats; folding furniture underframes. McLAREN, O.F. Oct. 31, 1949. [Sept. 30, 1948] No. 25510/48. Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (iii). A chair which is foldable into a bundle in which the legs lie in parallel and adjacent position is provided with four legs 1 which are interconnected fore-and-aft and laterally by crossed links 2, 3 the lower ends of the links being connected directly to the legs at 5 while the upper ends are connected, through subsidiary links 6, to the legs the links 6 being also connected pivotally to laterally arranged seat supporting members 7 which are intermediately pivoted together by a rule joint 9. When folded the legs 1 lie closely adjacent and the supporting members 7 project upwardly, the resulting bundle being held by a strap 17. The legs 1 as shown are extended upwardly and straps 12 which form arm rests engage a stud on each front leg and so keep the chair firmly in erected position. A back 10 is secured to the back legs and a seating surface 8 and a back rest 11 of flexible material are provided.
