Abstract
665,683. Refrigerators. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. Feb. 17, 1949 [March 2, 1948], No. 4340/49. Class 29 A cooling member of plate-like form for absorption apparatus of the continuouscycle inert gas type includes two plane pipe coils 18, 19 operating at different temperatures and interconnected to provide series flow of refrigerant, a plane tangential to one coil being located between planes tangential to the other coil. A deep-freeze compartment 14 is separated from the food space by an insulating partition 11 and from an icemaking compartment 13 by the cooling member having upper and lower plates 15, 20 with the evaporator coils 18, 19 between them and secured by clips 17 to the lower and upper plates respectively. The two plates are insulated from each other by a filling 21. The coils comprise a number of U-bends as shown in plan in Fig. 2 and refrigerant is supplied by a pipe 23 to the coil 18 so that the lower plate 20, forming the ceiling of the deep freeze compartment, is strongly cooled. The refrigerant then passes into the coil 19 cooling the upper plate 15, unevaporated refrigerant passing to a finned coil 26 cooling the food space. When water-filled ice trays are placed on the plate 15 for freezing, the consequent rise of temperature does not affect the coil 18 and plate 20, avoiding deterioration of deep frozen foods in the compartment 14. Inert gas flows in the same direction as the refrigerant. A cold accumulator comprising a flat receptacle containing a eutectic may be arranged on either or both sides of the cooling plate. In a modification the icemaking compartment is arranged below the deep-freeze compartment and is cooled by coils in its ceiling, the ice-making compartment being cooled by the upper plate of the cooling member, and the food storage compartment by the lower plate, which has fins projecting into the compartment. The roof of the refrigerator may be of thicker insulation than the walls. The incoming refrigerant is cooled by connections 24 to the gas heat exchanger 22, Specification 665,731. is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 descibes also a single coil clamped between an upper plate and a lower cold accumulator. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
