Abstract

665,375. Seats. NEW ZEALAND LACE WEB CO., Ltd., and THOMAS, J. W. Feb. 22, 1950. [March 1, 1949] No. 5528/49. Class 52 (ii). A seat, particularly for vehicles, is constructed so that while normally in the usual upright position will be adjustable into a more reclining position and will be returned to its normal position when the seat is vacated. Accordingly, the back rest is hinged to the rear end of the seat which is slidable to a limited extent in the main frame while the back rest is connected at its upper end to move downwardly and to hinge within the main frame. As shown, the main frame which is tubular comprises side upright members 1, floor members 3 front upright members 4 and arm members 5 the members 1 being connected by a top member 2, the members 4 by a cross member 6 and the members 1, 4 by longitudinal rails 10. The seat 8 is mounted on a sleeve 11 at each side which sleeve is slidable on a rail 10 against the action of a spring 12. The seat is also hinged at 9 to the back rest 7 which, at the upper parts, is provided with slide guides 14 within which slide blocks 15 rotatably carried by pins 16 mounted in bosses 17 secured to the uprights 1. Latch means may be provided to secure the seat in its adjusted position and a foot-rest may also be provided comprising a tube 21 having spring controlled plungers carried by arms 24 pivoted to the rails 10, the arms 24 carrying abutment ledges 26.
