Abstract

652,064. Air-heating furnaces. TYNESIDE FOUNDRY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and STRAUGHAN, G. N. July 9, 1948, No. 18516. [Classes 64(i) and 64(iii)] In an air heater comprising nests of externally heated air tubes a in heat-insulated boxes b on each side of a furnace c, and separate fans h, m drawing the combustion gases from the furnace downwards through the boxes and delivering air to the tubes under higher pressure than those gases, the air-heating tubes are of flat section, the opposite longer sides of the sectional shape of the tubes being straight and parallel to each other and the opposite shorter ends of the section being curved, and the major internal diameter of each tube being at least twice its minor internal diameter, which is preferably not more than three-quarters of an inch. The major internal diameter may be four inches.
