[Class 21] [Also in Group XXX] A pallet for elevating and stacking drums in horizontal position comprises a pair of lateral members joined at their ends by a pair of longitudinal members, each lateral member being curved to fit an arc of the periphery of one or more drums. The pallet comprises in one form two lateral members 10 joined longitudinally by channel girders 17, each lateral member comprising two curved tubes 12, 13 welded together at points 14 and at points between 14 by pieces 18. The lateral members may extend to any desired length, so as to support one, two or more drums 20 in the hollows formed. The hollows on the underside at the same time accommodate the upper surfaces of further drums on top of which the pallet may rest so that a stack may be formed by single layers of drums with pallets between each layer. The prongs 22, 23 of a lifting truck may be inserted as shown between tubes 12 and 13. Figs. 4 and 6 show a modification in which each lateral member comprises only lower curved tubes 30, 31 which provide hollows on this underside for accommodating the upper surfaces of drums beneath. The supporting surface for the drums upon the pallet is a pair of girders 35, 36 at the end of which collapsable chocks are placed. This pallet is used when drums are to be rolled on to a high rack in one layer. Thus the pressure on the drums is not high and the principal purpose of the curved tube is to position a plurality of layers on a fork elevating truck. Four drums 20 are rolled on to the pallet with one chock raised and the other is then raised while the pallet is elevated and one chock is subsequently lowered to allow the drums to roll out. Each chock comprises two arms 39, 40 pivoted on girders 35 and 36 respectively, their free ends being joined by a rod 38. Rod 38 supports a frame 41, 42, 43 which swings freely so as to be folded back as arms 39, 40 are lowered, or be unfolded and rest against stops 44 on the end channel girders 33 to form a rigid trestle, the lowered and raised positions being shown respectively at the left and right of Fig. 4.
