Abstract

656,519. Heat-exchangers. BROWN FINTUBE CO. Aug. 21, 1947, No. 23197. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1946. [Class 64(iii)] A heat-exchanger unit comprises a plurality of parallel tubes T for the passage of a fluid therethrough, the tubes having external longitudinal fins 14, means 45 encircling the tubes to bind them into a single bundle, a shell 20 to constrain a second fluid to flow longitudinally over. the tubes, and straps 40 encircling certain of the tubes and their fins to separate the tubes and prevent intermeshing of their fins. The invention is shown applied to a bundle of tubes which can be readily inserted in a heat exchanger in which the fluid passing through the tubes-enters at 35 and after passing the U-bends 37 leaves at 39. The second fluid passing over the tubes. and fins enters the open left-hand end of the casing 20 and leaves by the passage 34. The arrangement of the U-bend and straps 45 permits easy separation 'of the tubes to afford access to the inner tubes of the bundle. The fin construction is the same as that described in Specification 554,813, [Group XXII].
