Abstract

642,570. Electrically-released switches; switches partly electro-magnetic. ROTAX. Ltd. June 12, 1948, No. 15876. [Class 38(v)] In a push-pull switch, an axially-slidable - contact-actuating member a is held in operative positions on either side of a neutral "off" position by an electromagnet o surrounding said member. Fixed spring- pressed contacts. d are accommodated in radial slots in a cylindrical member c forming a support for one end of member a, different sets of contacts being engaged by an annular contact g on member a in the operative positions of the latter. The other end of member a carries a push-piece s surrounded by a pull-piece t, the two being separated by a spring u which together with springs 2, z, maintains the member a in the neutral postion. Pressure on the push-piece against springs u, 2 causes an armature r on member a to engage a polepiece q of the electromagnet, the latter being energized over either a separate switch or some of contacts d, g, to hold member a in this position. On the other hand, pulling on the pull-piece against springs u, z causes the armature to engage another pole-piece p which holds member a in its other operative position. The release of member a from either operative position is effected by exerting sufficient pull or pressure to overcome the attraction of the electromagnet or by denergizing the latter by a separate switch, the return of the member being completed by springs u, 2 or z. The push-piece may have a window v illuminated by a bulb w in either of the operative positions.
