Abstract

640,917. Ball and roller bearings. WATT, T. April 3, 1947, No. 9073. Convention date, April 30, 1946. [Class 12 (i)] A ball or roller bearing is carried in a recess 4 in a split bushing 5 of rubber or'like resilient material. The bushing is tightly fitted in a part-spherical recess 17 in a rigid housing 7 and is provided with packing-rings 10 and V- shaped sealing grooves 22. Additional sealing washers 15 which are fixed to the shaft 1 and which engage in dovetail fashion with annular lips 16 on the sides of the bushing 5 may also be provided. The recess 4 may be lined with a material harder than that of the bushing 5. The bushing 5 may be split axially or transversely, the contacting faces of the two parts being provided with interlocking projections. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also constructions in which the rubber bushing is mounted in a non-partspherical recess in the rigid housing. The application of such bearings to the wheel axles of railway vehicles is also described. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
