Abstract

647,611. Printing inks. MID-WEST BOTTLE CAP CO. Aug. 3, 1948, No. 20510. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1947. Drawings to Specification. [Class 146 (iii)] [Also in Group XVII] A hood type bottle cap formed from metal foil has a relatively flat portion for spanning the bottle mouth with recessed characters or designs formed in the surface and covered with a layer of ink which is protected by the unrecessed surface (see Group XVII). A suitable ink contains, varnish about 46 per cent, white titanium oxide about 39 per cent, reducer about 5 per cent, drier about 6 per cent, anti-oxidant about 0.2 per cent, and compound about 4 per cent. The varnish may comprise equal parts of china wood oil and hydrogenated rosin ester, the reducer is a solvent which reduces the viscosity of the ink, the drier may be a cobalt drier containing about 3.5 per cent cobalt, and the anti-oxidant may be any good semi-volatile anti-oxidant. A lamination of plastic material such as micro crystalline wax of appreciable thickness may be included in the foil, which is displaced during printing giving a deeper cleaner type impression.
