Abstract

644,693. Air lifts. MELAS, G. M. Aug. 9. 1948, No. 20937.. [Class 102(ii)] [Also in Groups I and,VI] A device for removing sediment from aquaria comprises an elongated air-duct 1 carrying at its lower end an upwardly directed suction sleeve 2 and ejector nozzle 4 and at its upper end an exhaust pipe 3, an open ended filter sleeve 13, gathered in at its ends, being secured by elastic rings 14 between the exhaust pipe 3 and ejector nozzle 4. In use, the device is arranged upright in a tank A and resting on sediment S, so that when air is ejected from a flattened end 1a of the duct 1 by pressure on a bulb 10, an upward current of sludge and water is induced in the suction sleeve 2 and ejector nozzle 4, the sludge being then deposited in the sleeve 13 and excess air escaping, after aerating the water, from the water surface and from the pipe 3.
