Abstract

633,373. Magnetic separators. JOGLEKAR, G. D., and VERMAN, L. C. April 23, 1947, No. 10893. Convention date, May 4, 1946. [Class 72] In a method of and apparatus for the magnetic separation of powdered material, the material is introduced at 8 into a Venturi portion 8a of a conduit 2 through which a stream of gas from a blower 9 is flowing. the gas propelling the material through a magnetic field 4 associated with the conduit. The path taken through the magnetic field is preferably curved and at right angles to the field (Fig. 2 not shown). The material may be passed in succession through the same separator, the field being increased in strength at each passage; or through a series of separators 42 ... 42<SP>2</SP> having fields of increasing strength. The separators may be used in conjunction with pulverizing mills or with air separators such as a cyclone dust separator 43. The magnetic field may be provided by either permanent or electromagnets.
