Abstract
630,619. Spectacles. OSIPENKO, M. Jan. 10, 1947, No. 964. [Class 97 (i)] In rimless or semi-rimless spectacles, the lenses are secured to the bridge and/or temples by means, each comprising a deformable tube which extends through aligned perforations in the parts to be joined and is expanded, by the insertion therein of a pin, to grip the walls of the perforation in the lens. As shown in Fig. 1, a pair of rimless spectacles include lenses 18, each of which is seated in a slot formed in a lug 16 on the bridge 10 to which nose pads 22 are adhesively joined. The lug 16 has ears which have perforations registering with a perforation in the lens and through these perforations extends a tube 26 as of plastic material. The internal diameter of this tube is uniform while the external diameter may vary, in which case, a pin 27, which may be tapered, threaded or both, is inserted at the smaller end of the tube which then expands and grips the walls of the perforation in the lens as shown in Fig. 3. Blocks 11 forming supports for the temples 13 are similarly connected to the outer ends of each lens 18. The nose bridge 10 may be of metal or plastic material or partly of metal and partly of plastic material and may be provided at each end thereof with an integral or attachable part to form a semi-rim. The temples 13 may be formed of the same material as the nose - bridge 10. The plastic material which may be used to form the nose - bridge and temples may be of the thermoplastic or thermosetting type and may be transparent, translucent, uniformly coloured or of various colours.
