Abstract
630,494. Disintegrating waste material. EUREKA WILLIAMS CORPORATION. Aug. 14, 1946, No. 24143. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1945. [Class 59] A disintegrating device for attachment to the waste outlet of a sink includes a chamber provided with an outlet and having cutting surfaces disposed around its periphery, rotary impeller means operable to impel material against the cutting surfaces, and additional cutting surfaces projecting inwardly of said cutting surfaces, the impeller means being notched to accommodate said additional cutting surfaces. The device shown comprises a chamber 12 having a bottom wall 20, the periphery of which is surrounded by a shredder ring 26 formed with slots 28 through which comminuted material is forced to an annular trough 22 and discharge pipe 24. The ring is also formed with a series of teeth 30 and with four inwardly-extending teeth 32 spaced 90 degrees apart, two of these teeth being located at the level of the slots 28 and two adjacent the upper ends of the teeth 30. The impeller is driven by an electric motor 44 and comprises two pivoted hammers 34, the outer ends of which are formed with notches 50 to accommodate the teeth 32 and with vertical serrations 52. Each hammer is fitted in addition with a stepped cutter 60. Specification 604,516 is referred to.
