637,801. Composite aircraft. ROBERT, R. A. Feb. 6, 1947, No. 3596. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1946. [Class 4] In a composite aircraft the nose of the fuselage of the auxiliary component 10 engages the rear of the nacelle 18 of the main component and its wing tips 12, 13 engage flared guides 33, 34 in the twin booms 27, 29 of the main component. As shown in Fig. 3, the rear portion of the nacelle 18 comprises a shock-absorber tube 41 which can be projected from the nacelle for engagement by the nose of the auxiliary aircraft when the latter is re-assembled with the parent craft for refuelling or other purposes. The inner portions of the twin booms and the portion 25 of the main plane between them are hinged on a transverse axis X-X. The tail plane 30 and elevator 52 extend between the tops of the fins 31, 32 of the main component. In an alternative construction, the nose of the auxiliary aircraft engages parallel guides on the parent craft.
