[Class 60] A surface finishing or polishing tool, particularly for metallic surfaces of irregular contour, comprises an annulus a of non-metallic material of a mouldable character, e.g. natural or synthetic indiarubber, impregnated with finely divided abrasive to such an extent, say between 50 per cent and 80 per cent, that the annulus is of a substantially solid and rigid character; the periphery is grooved or channelled at a<SP>1</SP> to a depth of about quarter of an inch, preferably during moulding, to form ribs or tongues a<SP>2</SP> which function in the manner of the bristles of a brush, the periphery being thus deformable under pressure to conform to any irregularity in the work contour. The annulus a is bonded to a ring b detachably clamped between a plate d<SP>2</SP> and a flange d' on the hub which is integral with the shaft d the parts d<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>2</SP> being secured by bolts c. The periphery of the annulus may be variably impregnated in zones across the peripheral face thereof so that as the workpiece is progressed across the peripheral face it is subjected to varying degrees of surface hardness in the different zones commencing on a zone of highest impregnation and finishing on a zone of least impregnation. Instead of being rotatable, the working surface may be traversable as in the case of an endless band.
