Abstract

628,604. Electric air heaters. WILKINSON, G. H. Nov. 9, 1946, No. 33350. [Class 39(iii)] A drying device comprises a housing 1 containing an electric motor 7 driving a rotary air impeller 21, air being drawn through the device and emitted via a discharge passage 5 having its axis displaced from and substantially parallel to that of the motor 7, an electric resistance element 31 being situated in the path of the air in the device. The element 31, which is in the discharge passage 5, comprises two intersecting plates 32, 33, of insulating material tapering in the direction of flow of air through the passage, the resistance being wound on the former so constructed. Partitions 3 and 15 respectively separate the motor chamber '4 from the passage 5 and a vortex chamber 18 containing the impeller 21. This chamber is closed by a closure 2 having a grille 22 through which air to be heated is drawn. Air can also enter the motor chamber 4 by an opening 25, to cool the motor before entering passage 5 by an aperture 16 in the partition 15. A switch 24 is provided having two control members to energise the heater 31 and the motor 7 respectively. The device is provided with a hollow handle 36 through which pass supply leads. U.S.A.
