Abstract
626,961. Knitting-machines. STIBBE & CO., Ltd., G., STIBBE, E. V., and BROWN, A. M. Aug. 1, 1946, No. 22960. [Class 74 (ii)] A stop motion, including a detector member 1 for detecting latches in abnormal positions and arranged for movement into and out of operative position as well as for movement to stop the machine, is used in combination with a latch opener 32, the detector member 1 and the latch opener 32 being controlled by patterning mechanism so that when the latch opener is rendered operative, the detector is withdrawn, and vice versa. A member 36 may also be provided for detecting needles with broken butts. The detector member 1 is mounted upon a block 2 slidable on a bracket 3 into and out of operative position and pivoted about a pin 4 so that the member 1 and the block 2 can be moved by a " flying " latch to actuate the stop motion. Rotation of the block 2 causes a member 13 to rotate a lever 21 carried by a spindle 22. The spindle 22 carries a cylindrical boss 25 forming one part of a catch member and having a hole bored through it. The second part of the catch comprises a notched rod 24 connected to the usual machine-stopping device 29 and passing through the hole in the boss 25. When the lever 21 is actuated, the boss 25 is rotated to free the notched rod 24 which moves under spring pressure further into the hole in the boss and actuates the device 29. The butt-detecting device 36 carries a pivoted arm 37 which also serves to rotate the spindle 22 to free the rod 24.
