Abstract
612,826. Turning. TAREX SOC. ANON. Dec. 10, 1945, No. 33323. Convention date, Jan. 4. [Class 83 (iii)] Chucks; transferring blanks.-The turning of irregular parts having axes disposed at angles to one another is effected in an automatic lathe by placing the part 1 in a jig 9, Figs. 1 and 4, formed from two or more parts, the jig being secured to an automatic feed device which feeds a cylindrical portion thereof into the machine spindle collet member 8 where it is tightened and the work held for a turning-operation. The jig is shaped interiorly to fit the work (shown in broken lines, Fig. 4) and the parts of the jig may be hinged to a joining member 11 for convenience in positioning the work. The outside of the jig is shaped for location in the spindle 5 of an automatic lathe and has holes 6 in its outer face so that it may be initially fed by hand on to the pegs 7 of a feed device arranged on one of the faces of the turret 4. The workpiece and jig are thus fed automatically into the spindle of the lathe.
