611,576. Twisting yarns &c.. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and LANGSTRETH, M. May 3,1946, No. 13453. '[Class 120(ii)] In disc doubling machines of the kind in which two twists are imparted for each revolution of the disc-carrying spindle and in which a yarn package support hangs freely from a sleeve mounted on the spindle, a guide for maintaining a balloon of the yarn clear of the package is disposed between the disc and the take-up point and is mounted on the sleeve so as to be independently supported with respect to the package. The guide may be an additional disc 11 mounted on the opposite side of the package 9 from the rotary disc 2 and supported by rods 13 fixed to an arm 12 attached to the sleeve 4, from which a member 6 with a packagecarrying arm 5 is suspended by a hinge. A wire yarn guide 17 of inverted Y-shape is attached to the arm 12 with the centre of the Y in line with the hollow spindle 1. A pendulum member 14 is hung from a pin 15 on the disc 11 immediately below the disc centre to damp vibrations. In a modified form, the yarn guide disc may be rotatable, in which case a pendulum may be attached to the disc supporting frame. The guide disc may be perforated to reduce its weight or a ring may be used. Alternatively, the guide disc may be replaced by a freely swingable light flyer. If the flyer is too light to resist distortion, a disc may be additionally employed. Specification 388,570, [Class 120(ii)], is referred to.
