Abstract

610,095. Fuel-injection pumps. RASMUSSEN, K. March 21, 1946, No. 8816. Convention date, March 16, 1940. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXVII] In a device injecting oil into an internal-combustion engine combustion chamber at a substantially constant rate, the pressure at the point of injection is lowered in one or more stages during the injection period by increasing the effective area for admission of the oil into the chamber. An injection pump plunger 1 has a collar 4 controlling an inlet passage 5, and passages 9, 10 connecting the spaces 8, 11 to grooves 15, 16, 17 co-operating with passages 12, 13, 14 leading to the combustion chamber. When the collar 4 on rising closes the inlet 5, fuel is sprayed at high pressure through the passage 12, the pressure dropping successively as the passages 13, 14 come into action. The injection ceases either when the edge 7 uncovers inlet 5 or when the grooves 15, 16, 17 pass the passages 12, 13, 14, rotation of the plunger varying the opening and closing of the inlet and delivery passages. The pump 2 is shown attached to a cylinder head, the passage 12, 14 having non- return valves and leading to injection nozzles in a combustion chamber.
