Abstract
617,866. Vehicle spring suspensions. STANDARD MOTOR CO., Ltd., BLACK, Sir J. P., TURNER, W. R., and PHILLIPS, W. N. G. May 2, 1944, No. 8224. [Class 108 (ii)] Relates to a motor vehicle of the kind in which the front end of the vehicle where the power unit is mounted is independently sprung from the hub assemblies of the steerable front wheels, the power unit being arranged to extend well beyond the line joining the wheel centres, e.g. as described in Specification 617,867. According to the invention, the springing is effected by quarter-elliptic leafsprings 18 which extend obliquely from the hub assemblies towards the central longitudinal axis of the vehicle where they are anchored adjacent each other and by guide links 25 which are arranged parallel to the leaf-springs. As shown, the front end of a tubular chassis frame 12 is of U-shape and struts 14 thereon support an anchorage plate 15 to which the springs 18 are bolted at 19. The free end of each spring is pivoted on a pin 20 on a bracket 21 in which the stationary wheel hub 22 can swivel for steering, and a pin 24 on the lower end of each bracket 21 is connected by a guide link 25 to a pin 26 on a bracket 27 secured to the chassis frame 12, the pin 26 being further located by a tie rod 28. The front end of the power unit is mounted on a raised platform 30 integral with the anchor plate 15.
