Abstract
617,257. Hair-waving appliances; heating by induction. BRIGGS, G. March 8, 1946, No. 7264. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XIV] Hair waving clamps consisting of a pair of curved jaws 11 made of or containing high permeability magnetic alloy are heated by currents induced therein by means of a work coil 30 housed within a casing 31 at the end of a tube 10 along which the clamps are fed. Each clamp is held within'the coil while being heated, by a latch 40 which may be manually or automatically operated. Thus means may be provided which automatically switches off the H.F. generator and releases the latch 40 when the clamp reaches the desired temperature. As shown, the feed tube is arranged vertically and the clamps are fed successively into the work coil by gravity. Alternatively the clamps may be spring-fed, the tube being vertical or horizontal. The clamp jaws I are connected by a curved strip 12 of spring steel, copper-beryllium, or the like, and may be faced with aluminium 11b to prevent chemical discolouring. The clamps are manipulated by tongs 14 having slotted ends 14a which engage with studs 13 on the iaws, flanges 11a on the ends of the jaws facilitating location of the tongs and a feathered core 20 maintaining the clamps in a predetermined position.
