[Class 99 (i)] In jointing apparatus for inserting a valve or connection a in a pipe under pressure in which a pair of split, packed, flanged collars c are mounted on the pipe and enclosed temporarily in a casing g while a section of the pipe is removed and the valve &c. inserted, the collars then being secured to the valve and sealed to the pipe, the collars have relatively long recesses c<3> in which the packing rings e may slide or roll as the collars are moved up by screws f for bolting to the valve flanges a<1>. The collars are steadied during cutting and inserting operations by set-screws d. Caulked lead joints are made at c<4> after removal of the casing. Specifications 544,568 and 588,474 are referred to.
