Abstract

<PICT:0615831/III/1> <PICT:0615831/III/2> <PICT:0615831/III/3> An apparatus for moistening adhesive surfaces on labels and the like has a movably guided tray associated with a label-supporting table-plate pierced by a multiplicity of perforations and also connected with a pump in such a manner that when the tray is moved the pump is actuated to deliver liquid from a reservoir to the tray and thence through the perforations in the table-plate to the label-supporting surface of the latter. Referring to the diagrams, when the apparatus is not in use the liquid level inside the pump cylinder 42 is the same as that in reservoir 1. The label is applied to table-plate 7 with adhesive side down and the table-plate depressed. This causes tray 40 and pump piston 31 to work against spring 48 and the pressure exerted on the liquid in the cylinder between piston 31 and valve 50 forces the liquid through bore 54 of piston-rod 32 to fill channels 56, vertical bores 57 and the gap between liner-plate 55 and perforated table-plate 7 to emerge through the perforations. When the hand pressure is released, spring 48 restores the apparatus to its original position.
