Abstract

615,173. Control mechanism for cycles. SOMVILLE, C. July 31, 1946, No. 22787. Convention date, Feb. 23. [Class 136 (i)] In a cable control device, particularly for bicycle brakes, comprising a casing, a hand lever and a cable, the hand ]ever 4 is pivotable about a pivot 1 fixed to the casing 2 and carries another pivot 5 about which can turn a member 6 to one end of which member the cable 8 is attached and the other end of which member is in permanent contact with a stop fixed to the casing. The member 6 has an arcuate peripheral groove 7 in which the cable 8 is fastened. At its lower end under the pivot 5 the member 6 has a beak-shaped part 9, the right-hand face of which has a gradient which is initially slight as at 10 and then continues with a short steep curve 11. When the lever 4 is operated in the braking direction, pivot 5 describes a circular arc towards the right about the axis 1 as centre and also drives the member 6 to the right. This causes the curved part 11 to slide off the stop and the curve 10 bears on the stop and increases the rotational movement of the member 6 whose peripheral groove 7 makes a rapid movement towards the right causing an approximately linear and longitudinal displacement of the cable 8.
