Abstract

Polymerized 4-vinylcyclohexene is used as the resinous constituent of coating compositions. Preferably, the polymer is heated with a fatty oil, e.g. linseed, menhaden, oiticica, perilla, soyabean, tung or dehydrated castor oils in an inert gas, e.g. carbon dioxide, and the varnish formed thinned with solvents, e.g. mineral spirits, p-xylene and naphthas and a cobalt drier added. The coating compositions may include glyceryl phthalate resins which may be formed in situ and pigments. They may be applied to metal, wood, glass, textiles and plastics and air-dried or baked.
